At Redstone, we believe that professional development is important for all employees. We do our best to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to improve their skills and acquire industry knowledge. In this release of Redstone Wrapped, we will share how our team engaged in professional development.

Canadian Meetings + Events Expo

This summer, our Events Team attended the Canadian Meetings + Events Expo (CMEE), the largest and longest running tradeshow and conference for meeting and event professionals in Canada. It was a great opportunity for our team to network with suppliers from Canadian, US and International destinations, venues, tech companies, décor and more. Ultimately, CMEE is a great opportunity for event professionals to learn about industry best practices and emerging trends, so they can ultimately plan and deliver better meetings and events.

Ascend Canada National Conference

Hailey Rodgers, our Business Development and Marketing Strategist, attended the Ascend Canada National Conference. This conference had a combination of heartfelt fireside chats, career workshops and a series of insightful executive panels. Learn more about Hailey’s experience here

American Society of Association Executives Meeting + Expo

Maddy Madeley, our Vice President, has been on a mission to learn about the latest trends in association management. She recently attended the American Society for Association Executives Conference in Atlanta, Georgia to absorb a wealth of knowledge on how we can create more value for our clients. There were over 5000 association executives from around the world, 132 valuable sessions facilitated, and three keynotes filled with rich content. It was a great experience for Maddy to learn about what other associations are doing. As well as how they’re trying to solve common problems within their organizations, and how they’re using technology to improve their services. Learn more about Maddy’s experience here.

IMEX Frankfurt

Our Account Manager, Amy Mosquera, attended IMEX Frankfurt, a major trade show and exhibition in the meetings, events, and incentive travel industry. It’s one of the largest and most prominent events of its kind globally. Amy connected with a wide range of exhibitors, including destinations, hotels, convention centers, event planning companies, and various suppliers related to the meetings and the events industry.

Attendees included event planners, meeting organizers, corporate buyers, and other professionals involved in the planning and execution of conferences, conventions, and incentive travel programs. There was also an education program with seminars, workshops, and keynote speakers. This program provided valuable insights into industry trends and best practices.

IMEX America

Our CEO, Carly Silberstein, and Director of Events, Shayna Asgill, attended IMEX America this fall. IMEX America is the largest trade show in the US for the global meetings, events and incentive travel industry. There were over 15,000 attendees (the most ever) at this year’s show, which brought together a year’s worth of business under one roof. Shayna and Carly attended as hosted buyers and got the opportunity to have meetings with a variety of vendors. Key themes from this year’s IMEX American included sustainability, inclusion, AI, new formats for education, tech (and the Sphere).

Employee Experience Summit

Our Director of Culture & Operations, Christina Ritcey-Couture, and Manager of Human Resources & Recruitment, Ryenn Cadesky, attended the Employee Experience Summit. This is Canada’s leading event focused exclusively on employee experience. Christina and Ryenn discovered the latest HR technology and innovations, trends across the HR landscape (such as employee value proposition, people analytics technology & DEI strategies), and how to stay ahead of the curve and develop our employer branding strategies centered around experience.

CSAE Summer Summit

The CSAE Summer Summit brings together association executives and professionals from various sectors to discuss industry trends, best practices, and network with peers. The specific themes, topics, and activities of the summit vary from year to year, but they generally focus on addressing the unique challenges and opportunities faced by associations and not-for-profit organizations in Canada.

Our Account Director, Natalie Wallace, spoke on the application of skills matrixes for the purpose of training, speaking to a full room of association professionals.

CSAE National

CSAE’s National Conference is a 3-day event where association professionals come together to connect and learn from one another to advance the organizations they serve. Our Account Directors, Natalie Wallace and Nicole Cork, spoke on skills matrixes and how to gamify training in order to engage younger professionals. Our Senior Account Coordinator, Calandra Muller, also attended as part of being awarded a CSAE Aspiring Leader Bursary

Travel With Purpose

Education is an important part of our culture at Redstone. We have an incredible Education Committee that works tirelessly to facilitate discussions, share resources, and create unique learning opportunities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In July 2023, we came across an Instagram post about a new educational experience called ‘Travel with Purpose’. This program brings a group all the way to Poland to provide a first-hand experience and education on the horrors of the Holocaust. The trip was a week-long eye-opening experience and was open to people of all faiths and backgrounds. We were intrigued by this incredible opportunity and sent our fellow employees, Ryan Jones, Amy Mosquera, Christina Ritcey-Couture, and Meg Williams to take part in this trip and learn more about the history of World War 2 and the Holocaust.

Harvard Leadership Course

Our Director, of Financial Services & Corporate Finance, Alexandra Muton, and Director of Events, Shayna Asgill, completed the Harvard Leadership Principles course. Leadership Principles is a 6-week, 35-hour online certificate program designed to help individuals thrive as leaders. Also, it teaches you how to unleash the capabilities of others and cultivate high-performing teams.

University of Toronto Course

Our Event Manager, Lauren Ball, completed the Managing People: Essentials course at the University of Toronto. In this course, Lauren learned how to effectively manage human performance, how to increase productivity, and how to uncover performance challenges to ultimately get successful results.

Education Committee Learning Forums

The Redstone Education Committee focuses on facilitating discussions and providing materials related to DE&I. This year, the Committee hosted four learning forums—informal lunch and learn-style gatherings. During these sessions, the Committee introduced and offered education on a specific topic to the team. This was followed by breakout sessions, often with prompts, to encourage further exploration and discussion of the topic. The aim was to allow the team to learn from one another and share their own lived experiences and knowledge.

The topics covered this year included Biases & Microaggressions, Burnout, Pride Month: Pronouns, Identity and More, and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

In addition, the Education Committee was pleased to host an external educator, Michael Soberman. Michael provided the team with two educational sessions on the Holocaust—one in person and one virtual.

Powerful Presentations

Powerful Presentations is a committee for those who want to take their presentation/public speaking skills to the next level. This group provides a supportive, collaborative, and powerful learning experience. Members are empowered to develop their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills.

We met in a hybrid format throughout the year and saw engagement from various members of the Redstone team. The committee explored a variety of topics and scenarios including elevator pitches, and both prepared and unprepared presentations.

We believe that professional development is important for all employees, and we’re proud to offer our staff members the opportunity to grow and learn. We look forward to our growth in 2024! Stay tuned for our next Redstone Wrapped posts!
