In this release of Redstone Wrapped, we are excited to share something that truly inspires and motivates us every day: giving back to our community. As part of our Redstone #CARES committee, our goal is to give back to diverse organizations who are advancing the community around us. Helping others is truly so rewarding here at Redstone and below we share some of the causes we supported this year:
Clothing Swap for Project Halo
The #CARES Committee kicked off 2023 with a clothing swap initiative where the #REDSQUAD brought in bags upon bags upon bags of preloved clothing, shoes, and accessories. The team took over our office’s boardroom to swap the day away! Participants left donations based on the number of items they took home, and all funds raised went to support Project Halo for Sick Kids. All leftover clothing was donated back to charities as well, including CAMH’s Suits Me Fine program.
Comedy Night for Step Above Stigma
The #REDSQUAD supported Step Above Stigma’s (SAS) comedy night fundraiser at Yuk Yuk’s Toronto! Canada is experiencing a mental health crisis amongst youth as many struggle to access or seek mental health support due to stigma. SAS is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to empowering youth and young adults to break the stigmas that say they are unworthy. Redstone significantly supported SAS’s fundraising efforts for this event which will go towards their youth and young adult mental health programs.
Heatwave Challenge for SickKids
Despite a rainy start, the #HeatwaveChallenge for SickKids beach volleyball tournament was a massive success! Right now, there are more than 800 children in treatment for cancer alone at the Hospital for Sick Children. Many are fighting for their lives. Team #REDSQUAD raised almost $1000 and won 3 games, tripling our success rate from 2022! All proceeds were donated to SickKids so they can continue their amazing work to end childhood cancer. We can’t wait for next year’s tournament with the #BESTSQUAD!
FMC 6K Walk
1 in 6 Canadians are impacted by (in)fertility, and often experience anxiety, depression, feelings of isolation, and financial burdens, as a result. The #REDSQUAD supported our client, Fertility Matters Canada (FMC), in their annual 6K walk for fertility awareness. The team raised over $500 to support FMC’s advocacy work.
CAMH Sunrise Challenge
The #REDSQUAD participated in the CAMH Sunrise Challenge, a social media campaign that encourages participants to “rise for mental health”. Participants were to capture their “Sunrise Moments” and share their photos on their social media accounts in support of the incredible work being done at CAMH. This work includes advancing mental health care research and transforming patient care, something that we value here at Redstone.
Food Drive for Horizons for Youth
This year, we donated 157 canned food items to Horizons for Youth. This was an initiative to give back to our community in relation to the Summer Social. Horizons for Youth is a shelter for at-risk and homeless youth between the ages of 16-24 years old in Toronto. They provide at-risk and homeless youth in Toronto with holistic support, life-changing programs, and a home for as long as they need.
Bake Sale & Toy Drive
The #CARES Committee hosted a bake sale and toy drive to continue our support for Project Halo for Sick Kids. Our bake sale raised $371 and our toy drive raised 20 toys!
We’re so excited to be able to give back to the community in such a meaningful way, and we can’t wait for the opportunities to come in 2024. Stay tuned for our next Redstone Wrapped blog post!
