A lot! Especially when referring to the name of your company. The objective is to land on a name that is creative, catchy, meaningful and memorable.
When Redstone’s co-founders set out to name the company, it was important to them that the name embody who we are and what we stand for as a company.
Redstone is a combination of our co-founders names; Bailey’s last name is Roth which means Red in German. Carly’s last name is Ekstein; the Stein portion means Stone. Tada! They had arrived at a name that embodied who we are (literally!). But this was not enough. The company is not about the co-founders per say, but rather, what they stand for.
The naming process went through several rounds of vetting to ensure that the name communicated exactly what the company stands for. The colour red exudes strong and powerful energy. It is also an energizing colour that motivates people to take action. Red has been known to signify a pioneering spirit and leadership qualities, promoting ambition and determination. On the other side of the name, stones are hard and solid, collectively, they form sturdy foundations. Symbolically, stones are objects of strength.
So, we have strong, powerful energy that motivates people to take action. We embody a pioneering spirit, leadership qualities, ambition and determination. Collectively, the team forms a strong, sturdy foundation. All of these descriptors accurately represent the company, what it stands for and its founders. Read more about our core four values here.
